Services · Bank account opening

Bank account opening in the Balkans, prepared before the bank says no.

We help foreign-owned companies prepare bank account files in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Croatia and North Macedonia. The goal is not to “try banks”. The goal is to present a company that a bank can understand without needing a detective, a poet and three compliance meetings.

A company registration certificate is not enough. Banks want ownership, source of funds, activity, clients, countries, expected payments and a reason why this company belongs in that jurisdiction. Annoying. Also completely predictable.

Banking reality

The account is where the structure gets tested.

Balkan company formation can be efficient. Banking is more selective. The file must explain the business in terms a compliance team can process: who owns it, who controls it, where money comes from and what flows through the account.

Croatia EU / SEPA

The most readable banking environment in the cluster, but also more formal and documentation-heavy.

Albania Workable

Practical for local companies with coherent activity, ownership and transaction explanation.

Bosnia Layered

Possible, but foreign-owned companies should expect careful AML review and local-document discipline.

N. Macedonia Lean

Useful for simple structures, but banks still ask the normal questions. Low tax does not remove KYC.

What is included

Bank-readiness, not wishful introduction.

01

Banking route assessment

We assess whether the company’s country, activity, ownership and expected flows are realistic for local banking.

Before wasting time
02

Ownership and UBO package

Shareholder structure, beneficial owner chart, corporate shareholder documents and director authority file.

Who owns and controls it
03

Business model narrative

A clear explanation of activity, clients, contracts, pricing, geography, expected payments and first commercial evidence.

What the company actually does
04

Source of funds file

Founders’ source of capital, expected first inflows, group funding, client payments and supporting evidence where needed.

Where the money comes from
05

Document review

Registry extract, articles, tax numbers, powers, passports, address evidence, translations and certified copies.

Small gaps become delays
06

Onboarding coordination

Support during bank forms, follow-up questions, clarifications and document requests.

Compliance has follow-up questions. Always.

Why this matters

Because a registered company without banking is mostly furniture.

Registration does not equal bankability

A registry may create the company. The bank still decides whether the company’s activity, ownership and risk profile make sense.

Foreign ownership raises questions

Non-resident directors, corporate shareholders, multi-country clients and remote operations all need a cleaner explanation.

The wrong country choice hurts banking

Sometimes the company should be in Croatia for SEPA credibility. Sometimes North Macedonia is fine. Sometimes Albania is enough. The bank file often decides.

Process

How we prepare a banking project.

The sequence is built to avoid the worst banking strategy: emailing documents randomly, waiting three weeks, then learning that the bank never understood the business in the first place.

Banking brief

We collect the country, entity, shareholders, UBOs, director, business activity, expected currencies, first clients, source of funds and intended transaction geography.

Risk and route review

We identify obvious banking risks: vague activity, high-risk countries, complex ownership, regulated sectors, crypto/payment flows, missing substance or a mismatch between jurisdiction and business model.

Build the bank-readiness file

We prepare the documents and narrative: ownership chart, company extract, articles, director authority, source of funds, activity description, contracts, website and expected flows.

Bank or provider matching

We assess whether the case fits a local bank, EU-facing bank route, payment institution, EMI or a phased approach. Not every company needs the same account on day one.

Application and follow-up

We support the onboarding stage: forms, additional documents, clarifications, compliance questions and adjustments to the business explanation where needed.

Operating handover

Once the account is approved, the company still needs practical discipline: accounting, invoicing, VAT position, payment descriptions, contracts and corporate records.

Documents

What banks usually want to understand.

Company file

A bank normally starts with the company: registry extract, articles, tax number, address, director appointment, shareholder structure and proof that the person applying has authority.

This is the easy part. The harder part is explaining the business so it does not look like a shell with ambition.

Commercial and KYC file

  • UBO chart and beneficial owner documents.
  • Passport and address evidence for directors and UBOs.
  • Business model explanation and activity description.
  • Source of funds and expected first inflows.
  • Contracts, invoices, website, offer deck or client pipeline.
  • Countries of clients, suppliers and expected transactions.
  • Tax residency and group structure where relevant.

Warnings

What usually breaks bank onboarding.

Vague activity

“Consulting and online business”

Banks hear this all day. The file needs a specific service, client profile, contract model and payment logic.

Complex UBO

Foreign corporate shareholder without clean chain

If the bank cannot identify control and beneficial ownership quickly, the application slows down or dies politely.

No substance

No reason for the jurisdiction

The bank may ask why a Croatian, Albanian, Bosnian or Macedonian company is the correct vehicle for this business.

Risk mismatch

High-risk flows in a low-detail file

Crypto, PSP, investment, gambling-adjacent, sanctioned geographies or opaque trading need careful routing. Not decorative wording.

Country differences

The banking answer changes by jurisdiction.

The same founder can look different to a bank depending on where the company is registered. Croatia is the EU/SEPA anchor. Albania can be practical for local and regional activity. Bosnia needs careful local logic. North Macedonia works best when the business is lean, real and easy to explain.

Indicative pricing

Bank account support ranges.

These are practical mid-market ranges, not guaranteed approval fees. The final budget depends on country, ownership, activity, first clients, source of funds, document quality, bank route and how many questions the file invites. Some files invite questions like they are hosting a conference.

Basic bank-readiness

€300–500

Review and preparation for a simple company with individual shareholders and low-risk service activity.

Best for clean Albania or North Macedonia-style cases.

Standard onboarding support

€500–1,000

Banking narrative, UBO file, document review, application support and follow-up coordination.

Common for Croatia and more formal foreign-owned structures.

Complex banking file

€1,000+

Corporate shareholders, group structures, multi-country flows, regulated sectors or higher AML sensitivity.

Quoted after review. Approval cannot be guaranteed.

Insights cluster

Topics we will expand in detail.

Banking deserves its own cluster: Croatia SEPA accounts, Albania bank onboarding, Bosnia bank files, North Macedonia bank accounts, UBO documentation, source of funds and why company registration alone is not enough.

Start here

Start with the bank story, not the bank form.

Send the company country, ownership structure, activity, expected clients, source of funds, first contracts and transaction geography. We will tell you plainly whether the banking route is realistic — and what needs to be fixed before the application starts collecting dust.
